Maria del Socorro Pesqueira was appointed President of the Healthy Communities Foundation in 2017. The Foundation’s mission is to improve residents’ health and well-being by promoting health equity, quality, and access across its service region comprising 27 zip codes in Chicago and western Cook County suburbs of Illinois. Her civic and community involvement is extensive and includes positions ranging from congressional to nonprofit board appointments, including Forefront, The Shriver Center on Poverty Law, Hispanics in Philanthropy, and Grantmakers in Health. Along with her husband and son, she resides in the Healthy Communities Foundation region, a few blocks from where she grew up. Maria is the eldest daughter of Mexican immigrants.
